COUNTY EXECUTIVE HUGHES ANNOUNCES DEBUT OF NEW LIBRARY SERVICE

TRENTON, N.J.—Mercer County Executive Brian M. Hughes announced today the introduction of NextReads, an exciting new newsletter service offered by the Mercer County Library System.

NextReads allows County residents to view the newest titles available at the Mercer County Library system’s Branches via the Internet, making a trip to the library to see what’s new possible with just a click of the mouse.

The new service also allows patrons or library web site visitors to sign up for email alerts in which the library system will send a list of up to 15 new titles in more than 20 genres each month. No library card is necessary to sign up for the email alerts—just a valid email address.

NextReads will be another opportunity to bring the library to the public—whether people are at work, school, home, or on the road,” said Hughes. “The County library system will be able to better serve its many library patrons who are less able to visit our facilities in person to browse the shelves and book displays to find something new to read. Now, everyone from avid readers to beginners can find new books in their favorite genres quickly and easily.”

NextReads provides unprecedented remote access to the library system. If a patron or visitor finds a book he or she likes, the service can display whether the book is available, and if so, the user can place a hold on it online. For those without email addresses, new titles and availability can still be found by checking NextReads from a library or personal computer or any Internet access point.

The newest titles at the Mercer County library Branches will be sent through email alerts in the following genres: Mystery, Fiction A through Z, Thrillers & Suspense, Horror, Science Fiction, Romance, Inspirational Fiction, Do-It-Yourself, Historical Fiction, Biography & Memoir, Mind and Body Fitness, Fantasy, Travel, Audio Books, Nature & Science, Business & Marketing, Teen Scene, Current Events, Spirituality, and Popular Culture.

Mercer County Library System’s web site, which can be visited at webserver.mcl.org is considered a “virtual” branch of the library, open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The library system also provides home delivery of library materials for those patrons who are temporarily or permanently homebound and cannot visit the library. For more information about this volunteer service, or the new NextReads online newsletter, please contact your local branch of the Mercer County Library System or visit online at webserver.mcl.org.
