Principal Librarian –Youth
Services. The successful candidate will possess a M.L.S. from an ALA
accredited institution, and at least two years of public librarianship.
Examples of the duties specific to this position include, but are not
limited to:

Must like children! Must
desire to promote a positive relationship between the library and
youth and their families.

Works to maintain high
professional standards in patron relationships in the library
through positive attitudes, crowd and noise control, and conflict
diffusion.

Does approximately 90% of
collection development ordering through monthly B&T carts,
publishers’ catalogs, vendors, and miscellaneous sources as
replacement and duplicate needs, review journals, on-line searches,
and recommendations.

Oversees orders placed by YS
staff for scope, balance, trends, and inclusion of in-demand items.
-
Manages the monies allocated
to the YS department from the Acq & Cat materials budget, and the
Friends of the West Windsor Library for large performance programs
and special materials.

Acts as the liaison between
the library and outside agencies.
-
Scouts and contacts
professional performers for the Summer Reading Program as well as
year-round programs.
-
Also seeks sponsorship from
other sources, such as the PNC Bank of West Windsor.

Works with the Reference
Dept.
-
Oversees the upkeep of and
the systematic weeding of the YS collection carried out by all
members of the YS staff.
-
Stays involved with the
young library patrons by doing weekly story times with craft; kid
craft during the year and weekly during the summer for school-age
children.

Oversees the YS staff (one
full time librarian, one full time library assistant and one half
time assistant) and the scheduling of the youth desk.

Is scheduled at least one
evening and rotational weekends.

Performs outreach to the
community (such as visiting schools – i.e. career day, guest reader,
promotion of summer reading program; community events; involvement
in grant opportunities to enhance the communities relationship with
the library; etc.)

Develop and implement the
Sunday Building Bridges to our Cultural Heritage presentations.
