General responsibilities
include, but are not limited to:
- Planning and
conducting programs for all ages, from
preschoolers to teens.
- Being well versed
in children’s literature, computer literate,
and able to assist patrons using print and
electronic resources.
- Participating in
community outreach, school partnerships,
publicity, readers’ advisory and collection
development.
- Creating book
displays and reading lists.
- Assisting with
summer reading program, scheduling
performers, and seasonal events.
The schedule for this
35 hour position will include 3 to 4 Sundays per
month (Labor Day weekend through Memorial Day
weekend); one evening per week and three daytime
shifts. This is an AFSCME affiliated, civil
service position that requires a MLS from an ALA
accredited institution and a NJ Professional
Librarian’s Certificate. Individuals with a
Bachelor’s degree, professional experience
working with children, plus enrollment in a
Masters in Library Science Degree program in an
ALA recognized program may be considered.
The successful
candidate must have strong interpersonal skills,
a dedication to library service, commitment to
quality innovative library programming,
knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, online
catalogs, and database searching. We are seeking
a candidate with enthusiasm and special
sensitivity to customs and culture of diverse
populations.
The salary range for
the Librarian title is $34,529 to $61,599. If
the candidate is in the process of obtaining an
MLS, the salary range would be $32,093 to
$40,423. The County of Mercer adheres to a
strict residency requirement. Applicants not
residing in Mercer County will not be considered
