Classic Movies @ Your Library
Breakfast at Tiffany’s
Sunday, October 5, 2:00 p.m.
Breakfast at Tiffany’s is the 1961 film adaptation of Truman
Capote's classic novella and is ideally cast with Audrey
Hepburn in the role of Holly Golightly. The film follows the
free-spirited gamine as she darts about New York, feted by
wealthy men drawn to her megawatt charm and elegance, hoping
that the party will never end. After "shopping" in front of
a Tiffany's window, she meets aspiring writer Paul Varjak
(George Peppard), and they begin a platonic friendship. Not
rated. 115 minutes.

Greater Mercer TMA
Outreach Event
Tuesday, October 7, 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m.
The Greater Mercer Transportation Management Association is
a non-profit partnership of the public and private sectors
dedicated to reducing traffic congestion and improving
transportation in and around Mercer County through a variety
of commuter programs and services. Representatives will be
available in the library’s lobby area to answer patron
questions about ridesharing, the latest transit schedules,
construction projects, and other commuter-related
information.

Independent Films @ Your Library
Persepolis
Thursday, October 9, 7:00 p.m.
Persepolis is a black-and-white animated film based on Marjane Satrapi’s autobiographical graphic novel of the same
name. It is the story of a precocious nine-year-old Iranian
girl coming of age during the Islamic Revolution. The film
won the Jury Prize at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival and was
also nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated
Feature. Rated PG-13, it is 96 minutes long. Registration

Meet the Geeks
Thursday, October 16, 5:30–7:30 p.m.
Do you have questions about computers and electronics? Now
you can ask the information technology (IT) staff at the
Lawrence Headquarters Branch Library’s questions about
technology, or about library services such as the new
library catalog or ListenNJ audio books. So bring in your
electronic devices (with the manuals) for troubleshooting or
instruction and learn how to properly use them. The IT Staff
will also address issues related to PCs, home networking,
and other “geek oriented” topics. They can also offer
consumer tips in buying a new computer or other electronic

Introduction to the Pilates Method
Thursday, October 16, 7:00–8:00 p.m.
The Pilates Method of body conditioning emphasizes the
balanced development of the body through, core strength,
flexibility, and awareness in order to support efficient,
graceful movement. Nancy Warner, director of Pennington
Dance and a Pilates instructor certified by Romana
Kryzanowska & Sari Meija Santo, will introduce Pilates in this
workshop designed for all ability levels. The workshop is
part lecture, part instruction and active participation is
not required. Please bring a Pilates or yoga mat, if
possible.

Journaling Workshop with Poet Therese Halscheid
Saturday, October 18, 2–4:00 p.m.
The New Jersey Poetry Society and the Lawrence Headquarters
Branch Library present a free journaling workshop,
“Capturing moments in the outer and inner thoughts about
them,” led by Poet Therese Halscheid. Author of three poetry
collections, including Uncommon Geography, which won a 2007
Finalist Award for Paterson Poetry Book Prize, Therése
Halscheid received a Greatest Hits Award from Pudding House
Publications and a 2003 Fellowship for Poetry from the NJ
State Council on the Arts.

The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton

The House of Mirth examines the conflict between rigid
social expectation and personal desire in Edith Wharton’s
best-known novel of Old New York. Lily Bart is intelligent
and adept at playing society's games, which expect her to
arrange an advantageous marriage for herself. Yet she
sabotages all her potential marriages; she wants more for
herself, but is too enamored of luxurious living to marry
for love alone.
